(Oakland, IA)- The girls’ wrestling season in the state of Iowa rolls into the postseason much quicker than the boys’ season and the Riverside girls wrestling team is preparing themselves for the quick turnaround this Christmas break. Riverside is coming off a 1-1 finish as a team at a triangular on Tuesday, December 19th as they faced off against the SWAT and Urbandale girls teams. Riverside would fall in a close dual to SWAT 50-30 but would bounce back and take the dual over Urbandale 40-30. Bulldogs’ head coach Taylor Frain mentioned how getting a win at a tough dual was big for them headed to break.
Since the postseason begins practically two weeks after the wrestlers return to school, Frain has the team focused on what they are going to work on all break and the early weeks of January to prepare.
The Girls Wrestling Regional Tournament takes place on January 26th, 2024, and will be loaded with tough competition but that doesn’t scare Coach Frain and she says it shouldn’t scare her girls either.
The Bulldogs will have just one competition before regionals after returning from Christmas break as they’ll face off against teams from Kansas as they’ll be the lone Hawkeye State team to be a part of the SMS Joel Rios Girls Invitational in Overland Park, Kansas on January 6th, 2024.
