(Harlan, IA) – The Harlan Cyclones have now won six straight games after being Glenwood 66-44 last night. Their balanced scoring and offensive ball movement have led to success underneath the hoop while also forcing defenses into uncomfortable circumstances. Head coach Zach Klassen has seen this in every game so far this season, which has led his top scorers to stay at the top.
Harlan is led in scoring by a trio of players, including Aubrey Schweiso, Hannah Sonderman, and Erica Rust. Schweiso has been averaging around 16 points and five rebounds per game while Sonderman has been putting down 11 points through six games. Rust has been so good down low in the paint that she has been able to average a double-double in games so far this season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. These three have been putting in the time and effort to get successful results.
A couple of players have impressed coach Klassen, including Ava Monson who averages just under five points and five rebounds per game, but she has been the leader in offensive efficiency and has controlled the momentum of the Cyclones. Another player is Molly Swensen who has been averaging nine points per game after coming back from last season’s injury. These two along with the Harlan bench may not be leading in scoring, but surely have been crucial in the Cyclones’ successful start.
Harlan has been on the offensive tempo of a sprint rather than a marathon. They score quickly and go on a quick run, but will then give up long runs in which they have to go back quickly on. Coach Klassen is looking to not only stop those runs but create the marathon of scoring smooth and steady.
Harlan Community will be taking on Red Oak at home on Friday, December 15th at 6:00 p.m.
