Kenneth Peter Kaufman was born on December 14, 1942, to George and Marie (Stein) Kaufmann. He had a typical childhood life on the farm with his three siblings: Cleo, Rose, and Lee.
He attended school at St. Boniface School in Westphalia, Iowa, and was active in the sports that were offered, until he was seriously injured in a car accident when he was eighteen. He suffered brain damage that affected his right side, but his intellect and wit were not lost.
Determined to live on his own, Ken moved to Sioux City. He was married for several years and to this marriage, his son, Charles was born. After his divorce, he returned to Shelby County and lived in Harlan for a couple of years. Unable to care for himself, he was admitted to Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa. He spent twenty-six years living in a nursing home.
Ken passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa attaining the age of 80 years, 11 months, and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Kaufmann.
He is survived by his son, Charles Kaufmann of Sioux City; his siblings, Cleo Greer of Council Bluffs, IA, Rose (Ken) Schwarte of Branson West, MO, and Lee (Julie) Kaufmann of Westphalia, IA; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 16th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, December 15 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.
