(Updated) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says Iowa’s bald eagle population is recovering this year after a poor nesting season last year. The DNR says of 329 bald eagle nests monitored across the state, 66 percent were successful, with an average of nearly two fledglings produced per nest. They say they also came across one nest with four fledglings. Usually, one to three eggs per nest is more familiar with bald eagles.
Considering the success rate, the DNR says the number of known active territories and the average number of young produced by the nest, a possible 720 young eagles were fledged by Iowa nests.
Officials say this paints a picture of Iowa’s resilient and healthy bald eagle population.
