Kathleen Ione Rasmussen of Audubon, Iowa was born on July 21, 1929, and passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023 at the age of 94. Kathleen, better known as Kathy, was the daughter of S. Herbert and Hannah Elizabeth (Jorgensen) Hansen.
Kathy, was a lifelong resident of Audubon. She married Ronald J. Rasmussen on September 5, 1948, in which they had five children: Nickoleen, Pheobe, Dirk, Jennifer, and Sara. She and Ron raised their children in Audubon on Circle Drive and 2nd Ave. Kathy served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, as a Bluebird and Campfire Leader and on the Extension Council while her children were young, and later in the Garden Club and Red Hat Society.
After raising her children, Kathy pursued a career in fashion at the Nifty Needle, Sid Strauss, and Annie’s Corner, all in Audubon. Ron began working as an auditor for the State of Iowa in 1986, and they lived part-time in Des Moines. Kathy concluded her career with women’s fashion at Madeline Shepard in downtown Des Moines, from 1986 until her retirement in 1993.
Kathy enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fishing, traveling, dancing and socializing. She spent many summers with her family at Ten Mile Lake and Twin Lakes, fishing and boating. Her home was adorned with family photos, most importantly the photos of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, proudly posted on her refrigerator.
Kathy was a woman of faith and a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. The family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at The Friendship Home in Audubon, where Kathy spent the last year of her life.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Ronald J. Rasmussen (d.o.d 12/17/2003); parents S. Herbert Hansen and Hannah Elizabeth Hansen; sister, Ardis Hansen; grandchildren, Miranda Rasmussen, Emily and Daniel Harrison; Sister-in-law, Dona Medberry; her friend Dave Chambers and son-in-law, Edward Wiederstein.
Those surviving Kathy include: Daughter, Nickoleen Wiederstein, daughter Pheobe (John) Yencic, son Dirk Rasmussen, daughter Jennifer (Edward) Harrison, and daughter Sara (Bruce) Rabun; and her twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.
Private family service and funeral arrangements have been made among her immediate family.
