(Walnut) Firefighters responded to a residential fire just before noon on Monday at 50596 Highway 83 near Walnut.
Upon arrival, Walnut Assistant Fire Chief Rob Akers tells KSOM/KS95 News smoke was coming from the home’s roof. Akers says the fire originated from one of the upstairs bedrooms, where a malfunctioning electrical wire caught a mattress on fire. He said there was significant damage to the upstairs of the home.
Walnut Firefighters responded, but the Avoca Fire Department took command because Walnut lacked enough personnel. The Hancock Fire Department also arrived on the scene. Atlantic and Marne Fire were initially called out but later disregarded.
