(Glenwood) Glenwood’s pressure defense led to a 56-42 win over Atlantic in girl’s basketball at Glenwood on Friday. The Rams responded with the win following Tuesday’s loss to Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln.
Danika Arnold let the Rams with 17 points, and Maggie McChesney scored 16. Payton Harter led Atlantic with 17.
The Rams held the Trojans to single digits in the first and second quarters, leading to a 29-12 lead at the break. The solid defense turned into points during the first-half run.
The Rams came out in the second half, outscoring the Trojans 19-12 in the third quarter. However, with a no-quit mindset, the visitors settled in during the final frame, outdoing the home team 18-8, but the deficit was much too wide to overcome. Payton Harter’s numerous touches led to nine fourth-quarter points. Claire Pellett, Maddie Richter, Lila Wiederstein, and Rylee Harlan knocked on one field goal each.
Atlantic drops to (1-3) and faces Clarinda on Tuesday at Atlantic. Glenwood (1-1) travels to Denison.
