(Griswold) One local veterinarian may be onto something when treating dogs struck with this mysterious respiratory dog illness. Doug Swain, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Lyman Vet Clinic in Griswold, says we do not know what we are dealing with, so we have to target the pathogen and drug choice based on the characteristics of what they see.
Dr. Swain has treated two dogs from families with a history of COVID. In one of the cases, the bulldog showed up in respiratory decompensation. In other words, open mouth breathing and coughing up some blood.
Dr. Swain visited with the dog owner, offered traditional conservative management therapy, and admitted he had no choice in the veterinarian world for COVID-19 anti-viral therapy. So, he used the human form of the vaccine and received some positive results.
Additionally, Dr. Swain had a client sick with COVID-19; her dogs all developed a cough.
Dr. Swain encourages people to work intensely with their veterinarian before choosing the treatment for their dog.
