(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board held a final meeting of the retiring Board and conducted an organizational meeting with the new Board on Wednesday evening.
School board members shared highlights from the Iowa School Board Convention. Board President Laura McLean presented Kristy Pellett and Jenny Williams with individual achievement awards from the Iowa Association of School Boards for going above and beyond for learning to make themselves better board members. The entire Board received the team achievement award for the third straight year for showing a commitment to learning and having professionalism in how they want to be board members.
In other business, the Board approved the resignations of Kelli Evans, High School Nurse, Tori Brummer, Assistant Volleyball Coach, and Megan Andersen, Kitchen Staff. The Board also approved hiring Kelli Evans, Director of Health Services, and Megan Andersen, Media Center Para.
The retiring school board also approved changing the language of the early retirement plan for certified staff and non-certified staff.
After the business portion of the retiring board meeting, Board President Laura McLean presented Jenny Williams and Nick Hunt with a plaque to recognize them for their loyal service. They also received a lifetime pass to any school activity for themselves and a guest.

Jenny Williams thanked the Board and noted her time spent on the Board for the past eight years was a learning experience she will carry with her moving forward.
The two retiring members were dismissed, and the Organizational meeting began with the swearing-in of new board members, Jodi Goodrich and Ginny Jordan. Laura McLean was re-elected to the Board as well. Next was the election of Officers. Kristy Pellett was voted in as the School Board President, Laura McLean was vice president, and School Business Manager Lisa Jones was appointed the Board Secretary and Treasurer.
Additionally, Pellett recognized Laura McLean for being elected to the Board of Directors of the Iowa Association School Boards representing District #7. McLean was initially appointed to fill a vacancy and was recently elected as a representative.
The Board finished the business meeting with numerous appointments and designations. Ginni Jordan will serve as the Cass County Conference Board Representative, and the Board will continue to meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. The Atlantic News Telegraph was re-established as the Official Publication, and the Board approved signers for district checks depository institutions, including local banks, Rolling Hills, and First Whitney. Ahlers and Cooney were also designated as the district’s legal counsel.
