(Harlan) Shelby County is working ‘vigorously’ and ‘cooperatively’ to expedite the transition of their countywide EMS and ambulance service.
Harlan City Administrator Gene Gettys read a statement, provided by Shelby County Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve Kenkel, to the Harlan City Council Tuesday evening.
On November 10th, Medivac provided notice that without additional financial increases in funding, they will need to cease operations December 1, 2023.
Chairman Kenkel noted that the timing of this was not anticipated, but the focus is to look present and move forward.
Shelby County residents voted an overwhelming yes to a referendum on taxation to fund EMS service in Shelby County on November 7th. The move to a countywide ambulance service wasn’t anticipated until 2025.
