(Lewis) Iowa Deer hunters are one-quarter of the way to the DNR goal. Bryan Hayes, Fisheries Biologist, says it’s a requirement when a deer is harvested; the hunter needs to report it through the DNR’s reporting system.
Hayes says 25,000 deer have been harvested statewide, and over half are bucks. The other half are does or button bucks. He says the harvest is one-quarter of the DNR’s goal of 100,000 harvested deer.
Hayes says those tags are limited, and some tags are available in Adair, Adams, Guthrie, Taylor, and Ringgold counties.
Hayes reminds hunters there are two programs available, the HUSH program and the Iowa Deer Exchange, that provide an outlet for extra deer.
