(Iowa City, IA) – The Iowa Hawkeyes will have four former Hawkeyes inducted into the IHSAA Hall of Fame. They will be honed at halftime of the Class 5A State Championship game at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
James Morris is a Solon High School graduate who went to three championships with Solon. He rushed for 6,477 yards and 674 points while in high school, he went on to play for Iowa after a successful high school career. Morris was a Lott and Campbell Trophy finalist and even spent three years in the NFL on the Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots.
Dan Dickel was an all-state defensive end who played at Mid-Prairie High School and played with the 1969 team that went undefeated. He led the Big Ten in tackles for loss and was named the Hawkeye’s MVP in 1972. Dickel came out of college in the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts and played for five seasons.
Mark Sindlinger played multiple roles on both offense and defense for Charles City High School as he was a first-team all-state selection in 1982. He currently sits in the IHSAA Hall of Fame for Wrestling as he won three wrestling titles and two junior national championships. He played for four years at center for Iowa including in the 1986 Rose Bowl.
Lon Olejniczak was a quarterback for Decorah High School in the 1970s. He helped lead an undefeated squad that went undefeated in the regular season and went to the 1978 playoffs. He currently sits in the IHSBCA Hall of Fame as he played both football and baseball for Iowa.
