(Iowa City, IA) – The Hawkeyes defense has continued to be consistent all year, leading the country in the top ten in multiple categories. A lot of those top ten honors have been because of the play by Iowa’s Cooper DeJean who will miss some time with injury as reported by The Athletic.
DeJean was a preseason first-team All-American while also being named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, LOTT Impact Trophy, and the Bednarik Award. He has seven career interceptions and has returned three of those interceptions for touchdowns. The Iowa native has played over 400 snaps this season, and in all snaps, the Hawkeyes have given up no touchdowns. He leads Iowa in pass breakups with five, interceptions with two, and currently is seventh for the Hawkeyes in tackles with 41.
It is currently unclear how long DeJean will be out this season. He was just named as a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy which goes to the best defensive player in college football. It is reported that he sustained the injury in practice which could put him out for the remainder of the regular season, but nothing has been confirmed based on that report.
Iowa will return back to action for their last home game against Illinois with the kickoff at 2:30 p.m.
