(Cedar Falls, IA) – The Hawkeyes come away with a win over the UNI Panthers in Cedar Falls 94-53 to improve to 3-0 on the season in front of the first sellout crowd in Northern Iowa women’s basketball history at 6,790 fans. Caitlin Clark had 24 points as she surpassed Megan Gustafson as the all-time scoring leader with 2,813 points. She registered her first triple-double this season and the 12th of her career with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder remarked on Clark’s performance saying, “(I) Can’t say enough about what Caitlin means to the program, she earned this record.”
Gabbie Marshall had her first points of the season as she earned a season-high 17 and went 6-12 from the field and shot 50% from the arc while earning two rebounds. Hannah Stuelke was right behind her with 16 points and seven rebounds. to finish off the double-digit scoring. Kate Martin was the 32nd Iowa women’s player to earn 500 career rebounds as she had eight rebounds and nine points on the night. UNI was led by Riley Wright with 14 points and seven rebounds while also pulling away four steals. Grace Boffeli also helped in the scoring column with 11 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Panthers.
In the game, everybody who was listed as an active player for the Hawkeyes played in the McLeod Center. Iowa now leads the series over Northern Iowa 26-3. Head coach Lisa Bluder said after the game, “I’m proud of this team for coming into a hostile environment and getting the win. This is a mature group that went out there and took care of business.”
The Hawkeyes will return to the floor this Thursday at home against Kansas State. That game is slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
