(Ames, IA) – The Iowa State Cyclones scored 14 or more in the first, second, and third quarters as they beat BYU 45-13. The game against the Cougars was the highest-scoring game for Iowa State this season and the most since playing TCU on November 26th, 2021.
Leading in the passing game for Iowa State was Rocco Becht as he went 15-23 for 203 yards and two touchdowns. His two touchdowns bring it down to just one touchdown needed for him to tie current 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s Cyclone record for freshman touchdown passes. Jaylin Noel had 98 receiving yards for two touchdowns while Jayden Higgins had 42 receiving yards. Abu Sama III had 110 rushing yards on eight carries for a touchdown. Both Eli Sanders and Cartevious Norton ran in for a touchdown as Sanders had 57 rushing yards and Norton had 42 rushing yards.
Iowa State kept BYU to just over 300 yards in the game and kept them scoreless in the second and fourth quarters. Will McLaughlin also had an interception in the game for a four-yard return. Joey Petersen led the Cyclones in tackles with eight and also had half a sack. Caleb Bacon had four tackles and earned a sack as well in the game.
Iowa State will take on #7 Texas this upcoming Saturday, November 18th at 7:00 p.m. at home.
