(Omaha, NE) — An ongoing mission from World War Two is closer than you might think. The laboratory for the Defense POW-MIA Accounting Agency is stationed at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha.
“The Oklahoma Project is the project to identify the individuals who died on December 7, 1941 aboard the USS Oklahoma. We were able to individually identify 362 of those sailors and marines in a period of about six year,” said Lab director, Dr. Carrie Brown.
Work has been ongoing to identify the remains of service members killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. In 2018, the DPAA was able to identify the remains of Bert Eugene McKeeman, of Council Bluffs. His remains were later reburied in a Council Bluffs Cemetery.
