(Underwood, IA) – The Underwood Eagles prepare for their game in the UNI-Dome against MFL MarMac after their 48-8 win over OABCIG last Friday night in the quarterfinal matchup. Underwood started off on a good note as they scored on their first drive on a quick start offensively. The Eagles also were able to hold OABGIC to just 8 points in the first quarter and kept them scoreless through the rest of the game.
The defense has continued to be dominant in games this season as they kept the Falcons to just 13 yards rushing and 202 yards passing in the game. Graham Jensen leads the team in tackles with 64, and in tackles for loss with 17. Sam Shoening sits right behind him with 55 and Jack Vanfossan sits with 40.5 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery this season. The defense has continued to keep teams in single digits in every game since allowing 12 to AHSTW back on September 15th. This Underwood defense has had consistency by their side all season long and it shows in every game up to the UNI-Dome.
Offensively, the team has looked very good as they have outscored their opponents 248-14 in the last five games alone. Quarterback Garrett Luett went 19-25 for 339 yards, four touchdowns, and just one interception in the last game against OABGIC. In that game, he connected well downfield with Mason Boothby as the senior had 176 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the game. Head coach Nate Mechelsen said that, “Their connection is special, when that combination is working they can be hard to stop.”
Looking ahead, Underwood is taking on a very physical team of MFL MarMac in the UNI-Dome. The Bulldogs primarily rely on the ground game as they have over triple their passing yards in their running game. Wyatt Powell leads in the rushing game with 869 yards and 11 touchdowns while Quinn McGeough sits right behind him with 826 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. That combination is one that is hard to stop, but the game plan for Underwood remains the same.
MFL MarMac and Underwood kickoff at the UNI-Dome in the semifinal matchup on Friday with the start time at 1:00 p.m.
