(Iowa City, IA) – The University of Iowa football gets some relief after their last game against Minnesota. The NCAA is overturning a call from the game against Minnesota, however, it is not the call that reversed the game entirely after Cooper DeJean ran back a return for a touchdown. Rather the call that has been overturned is the targeting call from Iowa linebacker Karson Sharar in the first half.
His targeting call was on a special teams kickoff return that was called just before halftime. Sharar was ejected from the game and did not play the rest of the competition against the Golden Gophers. The Iowa news release stated, “After review, it was determined Sharar did not target with the crown of the helmet, and he subsequently should not have been disqualified.”
Sharar will return to action next week in the game against Northwestern on November 4th as the Hawkeyes enjoy their bye week today.
