(Maryville, Missouri) Atlantic High School FFA Chapter Reporter Lily Johnson reports on October 5, 2023, the Atlantic FFA members attended the fall contest held at Northwest Missouri State University located in Maryville, Missouri. The members got the opportunity to compete in several different contests.
The eleven members competed in the Livestock Evaluation contest, placing 9th out of 31 teams. The top 4 scorers were McKenna Sonntag, Addie Freund, Lauren Comes, and Hayden Kleen. The four members put their agricultural knowledge to the test of various livestock breeds. They were tasked to place breeding and market classes of beef, swine, and sheep, along with three classes of oral reasons.

Johnson says Colton Rudy placed sixth in the Dairy Cattle Evaluation contest. This contest enabled students’ developmental skills in dairy animal selection and herd management. They evaluated and ranked dairy animals based on visual factors of selection.

The final contest was the Dairy Foods contest. The team of Lola Comes, Lily Johnson, and Natalie Smith topped the competition; the group tried various types of cheese, found the defects in milk, looked at milking equipment, and took a written exam.
