(Des Moines, IA) Iowa schools are seeing an increase in staff but still need more workers. There are 143 openings in Des Moines and 186 in Cedar Rapids. Certain districts work with universities or participate in career fairs to recruit employees. However, the Iowa Department of Education says Iowa schools are doing better this year than last. In August of 2023, there were 204 requests for substitutes to start in an open position, 43 less than last year.
