(Des Moines, IA) The Iowa Utilities Board encourages residents with money issues to talk with their utility providers before the yearly winter service moratorium on November 1st.
Iowa’s winter moratorium law disallows utility companies from disconnecting customers’ home heating utilities if residents forget to pay between November and April. People can be financially assisted by The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which receives applications from those 60 years or older or disabled. Those who have any concerns should contact The Iowa Utilities Board.
LIHEAP funds can help households stay safe and warm in the winter by assisting with home heating bills, preventing energy shutoffs, reconnecting services, making homes more energy efficient, and repairing or replacing heating equipment. The LIHEAP Heating Season Toolkit provides outreach materials to help partners, stakeholders, and grant recipients reach eligible households.
