(Atlantic) The Atlantic football team is looking to end the regular season on a high note when they host Nevada on Friday night. The Trojans still have a long shot of making the playoffs with a win.
Creston leads the district with an unblemished record, Nevada is currently second with one district loss, and Atlantic and Harlan are 2-2 in district competition.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer is most proud of the team’s effort throughout the regular season.
Nevada runs a balanced attack on offense with 1,330 yards passing and 1,682 yards rushing. The running attack is led by Cason Stevenson, who has rushed for 1,263 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 8.7 yards per carry, running behind a large offensive line.
The Trojans’ young defensive backfield has come of age this season, with juniors Kinnick Juhl and Sophomore Shelton Mualia cutting their teeth with fellow upperclassmen Colton Rasmussen and Nolan Waters.
The Trojans’ running game has improved, led by Dante Hedrington’s 548 yards, six touchdowns, and 5.4 yards per carry. The offensive line led by many underclassmen has led the offense to 1,245 rushing yards.
Regarding turnovers, the Trojans have recovered three fumbles and intercepted four passes. Juhl has three of the four interceptions. Nevada has eleven interceptions, led by Kyle Kingsbury with six. The Cubs have recovered six fumbles.
Jackson Burlage leads Nevada defensively with 68.5 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and nine tackles for loss. Colton Becker leads Atlantic with 54.5 tackles, seven for loss.
