(Red Oak) Red Oak Police Chief Justin Rhamy says at approximately 4:50 a.m.; the Montgomery County Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call of shots fired in the 1800 block of East Summit Street at Woodland Park Apartments.
The investigation led to the arrest of 46-year-old Anthony Dean Morris of Red Oak. Authorities charged him with reckless use of a firearm and a felon possessing a gun.
According to the press release, Morris and a friend were messing around with his Hawg 9mm handgun and chambered a round into the firearm barrel. Morris wanted to unload the gun and was unfamiliar with removing the magazine and using the slide release to eject the chambered round out of the barrel. Officials say Morris made the unwise decision of taking the 9mm handgun outside the apartment complex and firing the weapon in the air until the gun was empty. Morris returned to his apartment with the empty handgun.
Officers located Morris in the apartment, took him into custody, and transported him to the Montgomery County Jail. Police seized the handgun.
