(Griswold, IA) – The Exira-EHK Spartans earned a big win over the Griswold Tigers as they earned their fifth win this season and their fifth win in district play. Griswold fought in the game but was never able to put a full offensive drive together in the first half as the Spartans solidified their win before the start of the second half.
Jameson Kilworth spared no time as he added on the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter by rushing into the endzone to put Exira-EHK up 8-0 after the two-point conversion. After Kilworth’s touchdown came another as Cash Emgarten scored off a long rushing touchdown in the endzone to put Exira-EHK up even further on the scoreboard. After another touchdown by Cannon Hansen, the Spartans solidified their 24-0 lead over Griswold. Alex Hansen helped to rush in another touchdown after a spin move to put him in the endzone and put the Spartans up 32-0 to end the first quarter. Griswold was never able to establish the offense after a few turnovers and miscommunications on the offensive end.
Griswold tried to get the offense rolling in the second half, but with the Spartans’ defense pounding the line, they were never able to solidify an offensive drive in the second half. Exira-EHK on the other hand was able to add two touchdowns to the board once again by continuing to rely on the rushing game. Bryce Brabham earned a rushing touchdown that helped to put the Spartans up 40-0. The Spartans also scored their final touchdown of the game off an Alex Hansen touchdown rush in the endzone as he earned his second touchdown on the night and put the Spartans up 48-0 at the half.
After halftime, the Exira-EHK Spartans put in their secondary offense. Griswold started to get the offense moving as Body Wyman passed for his only touchdown and Griswold’s only touchdown of the game. As Connor Bowers slanted out in the endzone, Wyman found him in the corner and threw up a lob pass from the seven-yard line as Bowers leaped up and caught it for a touchdown. This ended up finalizing the score for both teams as Exira-EHK defeated Griswold 48-6.
Griswold ends up with zero district wins this season and does not get a chance at postseason play, but will have a chance to add on a ninth game this season if they elect to. Exira-EHK ends up 5-1 in District play while earning themselves a spot in the playoffs as they will take on Glidden-Ralston in the first round.
