(Atlantic) The Atlantic Splash Fundraising Committee announced they reached the $300,000 mark late last week.
Splash Pad Fundraising Committee Co-Chair Jeremy Butler says at this point, the committee can start applying for some of the larger grants as the windows open. He says many of the larger ones are finishing grants, meaning they want to ensure the project will happen before committing. Butler says, currently, the committee has applications out for some of the smaller grants that do not have those stipulations.
Fundraising efforts for this approximately $600,000 project began in April of 2022, with $50,000 from the City of Atlantic and another $16,000 check in hand.
The pad, including the overflow zone, is 5,000 square feet, and the surface with the features is a little over 4,000 square feet; the entire project will have 25 and 30 features. Butler says a Splash Pad of this size and caliber, making it a re-circulating system, would take the project from $600,000 to over one million dollars. The State of Iowa would label this project a swimming pool, meaning the water would have to be tested twice or thrice daily, plus the chemicals and workforce.
