(Creston) As we turn the page to the second half of the Iowa High School football season, the cream of the crop starts to rise to the top, and through five weeks of the season, #2 Creston appears to be the part of the cream at this point in the season. Last week, the Panthers defeated two ranked teams, Lewis Central and Harlan, to remain undefeated going into week 6.
Creston enters week 6 with a 25-22 win over Harlan at Creston last week. Head Coach Brian Morrison gives credit to a strict, non-district schedule.
Creston has accumulated 2,258 total yards through the season’s first five weeks. Morrison says they are trying to platoon the players as much as possible, and filling the front-line positions in the platoon system left some question marks. However, there is no question about it anymore; the Panther lineman has arisen to the occasion.
Creston quarterback Cael Turner is having a good season throwing the ball. The senior is completing 64.7 percent of his passes for 1,353 yards, 15 touchdowns, and an impressive 0 interceptions.
Panthers running back Brennon Hayes is causing opposing Head Coaches to lose to sleep at night—the senior averages seven yards per carry, accounting for 651 of the team’s 930 rushing yards.
Coach Morrison says the Trojans offense is much like Harlan’s, Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer’s alma mater.
The Trojans defeated the Panthers a year ago, 26-21.
We will have the broadcast on 95.7 F.M. and live video-streamed on westerniowatoday.com.
The Class 3A District 6 standings have Creston, Nevada, and Atlantic at 1-0. Harlan, Knoxville, and Perry are 0-1. The Cyclones host Perry, Creston is at Atlantic, and Knoxville is at Nevada.
