(Knoxville) The Knoxville football team enters Week 5 and starts Class 3A District play with two straight wins. The Panthers defeated South Tama, 34-7, and Des Moines, Hoover, 50-0, in Week 3 and Week 4, respectively.
Knoxville Head Coach Matthew Duncan. The Panthers have depth at the skilled positions. Noah Keefer is the starting quarterback, and Brenden Woosley proved he could do the job earlier in the season with 259 passing yards. Nine receivers have combined for 55 catches, and nine others have a combined total of 103 carries in the rushing game.
Next up for the Panthers is the district opener against Atlantic.
Coach Duncan is impressed with Gavin McLaren and Dante Hedrington, the Trojans’ one-two punch in the backfield. McLaren averages 5.5 yards per carry, and Hedrington 4.8.
Turnovers always play considerable factors in games, and Knoxville has their share of takeaways with seven fumble recoveries and five interceptions. The Trojans have recovered two fumbles and picked off two passes.
Hadin Thompson is 5-for-8 kicking PATs for the Trojans, and Colton Rasmussen averages 35.2 yards per punt.
Connor Willis has connected on 14/16 Points after touchdowns, and Max Magana is averaging 31 yards per punt.
The kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The pre-game show starts at 6:30 p.m.
