(Atlantic) Atlantic Splash Pad Fundraising Committee Co-Chair Jeremy Butler, appearing at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, says the committee has 257,906 in the bank, $21,000 on its way, and $18,500 in signed pledges for 2024, for a total of 297,406, raised for the project. Butler says he is confident the committee will reach the $300,000 level by the end of the month.
Butler says once they hit $300,000, it will open many of the grants. He says many of the larger ones are finishing grants, meaning they want to ensure the project will happen before committing.
Butler says, currently, the committee has applications out for some of the smaller grants that do not have those stipulations. The total cost of the project is currently a little over $600,000.
The pad, including the overflow zone, is 5,000 square feet, and the surface with the features is a little over 4,000 square feet; the entire project will have 25 to 30 features. Butler says a Splash Pad of this size and caliber, making it a re-circulating system, would take the project from $600,000 to over one million dollars. The State of Iowa would label this project a swimming pool, meaning the water would have to be tested twice or thrice daily, plus the chemicals and manpower. Butler says they have a donor who would pledge $10,000 contingent on water conservation. He says the committee devised an idea to meet the donor’s needs.
Meanwhile, there are many ways to donate to this project. Checks can be made payable to the City of Atlantic (Splash Pad on the memo) and dropped off at City Hall. The checks will be made to SHIFT ATL (Splash Pad on the memo) and dropped off at the chamber during business hours—Venmo, @ SHIFT ATL-splash Pad, in comments with a mailing address.
Using your credit card or PayPal account, you can donate directly from the SHIFT ATL website. The website is atlanticiowasplashpad.com. For businesses wanting to support this project at a sponsorship level, donations over $10,000 include the opportunity to purchase a specific water feature on the pad and have your name, family name, or business on the feature.
