(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council on Tuesday passed the second reading of an ordinance entitled Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission waived the rules for the third reading to make the ordinance official. The commission replaces the now-dissolved Parks and Recreation Board.
Regarding the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, Atlantic Mayor Grace Garrett asks those interested in serving on the commission to please bring a letter of interest in a sealed envelope to City Hall. The deadline for accepting letters will be October 6 at 4:30.
The Mayor and City Council will work together to form this commission. Mayor Garrett did not set a timeline for creating the commission. Councilman Gerald Brink admitted dissolving the Park and Recreation Board caused some controversy, but he is optimistic about the future of this commission.
The commission will consist of three people living within Atlantic City limits, two Cass County residents, and one non-voting high school student. The terms would start as three one-year and two-2-year terms for the first year; after that, the terms will all be two years.
