(Harlan, IA) – Harlan Girl’s Cross Country has continued to put themselves further and further to the bullseye of the top ten. The Cyclones earned the Class 3A 16th-placed spot in the IATC Rankings today. Coach Zach Klassen has been proud of his athletes stepping up and owning their roles this season.
Harlan had three top-25 runners in their last meet at Storm Lake. Looking at top-ten finisher Allie Anderson, who finished in 7th place in the last meet with a 20:55 time. The freshman is just starting out in the 5k race and she continues to improve every single meet. Anderson does have the ability to train with some of the top talent in the state and has great leaders along the way.
Senior Taylor Bieker is the leader of the Cyclones as she may not lead the team in the meets, but she does with her teamwork and leadership to the other runners. Bieker finished in 22nd place at Storm Lake with a 21:58 time and looks to continue to improve. She is an athlete of adversity as she was hurt last season and the track and field season as she continues to climb in her times and prove what she is made of in every meet.
Harlan is led in the meets by Lindsey Sonderman as she finished in 1st place at the Storm Lake meet with a 19:11 time. Her time was so good that she finished almost one minute faster than the next runner in second place. Sonderman is now ranked number one in the state in Class 3A and has earned it through her hard work.
Many people know that she is a great runner, but she is also a good leader by example for her teammates.
Harlan races tonight in the Tri-Center Invitational which begins at 4:30 p.m.
