(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW was hungry in their last game against Riverside. The Vikings started out early with a pick-six and recovered a fumble off a kick return for a touchdown to start off the game. AHSTW ended up with the victory over Riverside 41-7 and now starts off the season with a 2-0 record.
Luke Sternberg was one of the key elements in the game against Riverside. The junior started off with the pick-six, rushed for 103 yards, and earned two rushing touchdowns in the game. Sternberg was a dominant force on the field and made the big plays that head coach GG Harris was looking for.
AHSTW improved in the tackling game in week two against Riverside as Kyler Sandbothe earned 10.5 tackles with the defense earning a total of 62 tackles in the game. The Vikings were able to stop Jaxon Gordon in the running game with an impactful defensive line and kept him under control with just 87 rushing yards in the game. Success has been the name of the game for AHSTW and are looking to do the same in week three for four quarters.
The Vikings will be traveling to take on an 0-2 Kuemper Catholic team that has lost two tight games to start out the season. The Knights lost their first game 22-19 to Bishop Heelan while losing the second 24-14 against Underwood. While relying on the passing game, the Knights are led by Brock Badding who passed for 259 yards and two touchdowns in their last game against Underwood. Coach Harris knows that Kuemper Catholic’s team is a team that can move and play well on the field. AHSTW will have to step up offensively to play against a tough Knights defense.
While the Vikings are a well-balanced team, coach Harris knows that his team will have to buckle down on the defensive end and protect the box. He is also looking for his offensive line to stay strong and compete to their highest level.
AHSTW will play Kuemper Catholic tonight at Carroll Athletic Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
