(Ames, IA) – The Iowa State Cyclones earned a win over the UNI Panthers 30-9. UNI had more total yards in the game, but the Cyclones utilized their opportunities to go over the Panthers in the season opener.
Leading in the game for the Cyclones was Rocco Becht who went 10-13 for 133 yards and two touchdowns. In the rushing game, the Cyclones were led by Cartevious Norton who rushed for 49 yards, Abu Sama rushed for 40, followed by Becht who rushed for 10 yards and had a touchdown. Jeremiah Cooper earned two interceptions in the game for 88 yards, both of which were in the first half. He also had a pick-six off the one interception for a touchdown for the Cyclones.
UNI was led by Theo Day as he went 16-34 for 164 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Tye Edwards rushed for 72 yards and Harrison Bey-Buie rushed for 34 in the game. The Panthers earned a field goal and a missed extra point, but Desmond Hutson earned a touchdown in the game to help the Panthers further on the scoreboard. Both Woo Governor and Ben Belken had one tackle for loss in the game.
Iowa State will take on another Iowa team, the Iowa Hawkeyes on September 9th at home starting at 2:30 p.m. UNI will take on Weber State at home in the UNI Dome at 4 p.m. on September 9th.
