(Des Moines) The record drought continues in Iowa. The latest U.S. drought monitor released on Thursday showed conditions worsening in northeast and east central Iowa, going down as the 15th driest August for the region.
Iowa State Climatologist Justin Glisan says the Iowa drought has persisted for an all-time record 166 straight months. Despite the worsening conditions in other parts of the state, the map does show improvement for the southern tier of counties.
Glisan, this is a longer-term drought than in 1988 and 2012, but not as pervasive.
