(Exira) Exira/EHK Head Coach Drew Buckholdt takes over the reins for the first time when the Spartans open the season on Friday night. The former Spartan and Waldorf College standout spent several years on the staff before taking over for the retiring Tom Petersen.
Coach Buckholdt takes over the helm from a team that finished 4-4 a year ago. He says many players on this year’s squad haven’t played much and are ready to make their mark.
Jameson Kilworth and Alex Hansen lead the team. Kilworth had 22.5 tackles, and Hansen led the team in tackles with 44.5 and 31 solos.
The Spartans match up against Ar-We-Va on Friday night. Coach Buckholdt points to a couple of key players, Wyatt and Wade Regaller, who combined for over 1,030 rushing yards last season. He says the Rockets lost only one player from last year’s squad.
The Spartans host Ar-We-Va on the hill tomorrow night. The kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
