(Des Moines) Emma Wayson, daughter of former Atlantic resident Rachel (Smith) Wayson and granddaughter of Glen and Fauzan Smith of Atlantic, had quite a day at the Iowa State Fair with her #1390 steer, Junior.
Emma and her steer Junior were honored to be asked to exhibit in the Governor’s Charity Steer Show, and her family raised $24,825, contributing to the show’s record total of $501,000. The funds raised go to the three Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa. These facilities provide support and refuge for families of seriously ill children requiring hospitalization and treatment. The Ronald McDonald Houses in Iowa have served over 55,000 families from all 50 states and 62 foreign countries.
Emma, her steer Junior, and celebrity showman, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, teamed up to win Grand Champion Showmanship Honors. The showmanship award is a partnership between the steer, the youth exhibitor, and the celebrity.
Benton County Cattlemen and Local Supporters sponsored ten-year-old Emma, Secretary Naig, and Junior.
