(Audubon) The Audubon City Council approved the wording change of the Local Option Sales Tax measure.
Audubon City Clerk Joe Foran says in the past, funds generated from the Road Use and Local Option Sales Tax were used to pay the expenses, including salaries for the Public Works Department. However, during a state audit a couple of years ago, it was pointed out the wording on the Local Option Sales Tax was very restrictive to the repair and placement of roads.
This was an oversight by a previous city council, not realizing its negative impact on the general fund. Foran says the wording change will ease the pressure on the general fund and avoid any future budget cuts.
