(Ames, IA) – Multiple athletes from Iowa State have been charged in the NCAA gambling investigation. The players who are involved are quarterback Hunter Dekkers, wrestler Paniro Johnson, offensive lineman Dodge Sauser, and Denver Broncos and former Cyclone defensive lineman Enyioma Uwazurike.
The Story County Attorney’s Office has charged Hunter Dekkers with tampering with records and betting on an Iowa State football game, something we covered in our story yesterday on the junior quarterback. They believe that he went against the sports gambling rules put up by the NCAA. Dekkers made over $2,500 dollars on the app, DraftKings, as he made 366 online sports bets.
Paniro Johnson is one of the other players that have been charged in the investigation. Johnson is a sophomore wrestler that totaled around $45,600 on over 1,200 bets made on online gambling platforms. He also made 25 bets on Iowa State athletic events.
Dodge Sauser, the offensive lineman for the Cyclones, is said to have wagered around $3,000 on DraftKings on multiple games. There is no current information if he placed any bets on Iowa State athletic events.
The last player currently being charged is Enyioma Uwazurike as he is accused of placing wagers in two games he played in during his collegiate career. Like Dekkers, he is also receiving a complaint of tampering with records. Uwazurike placed multiple bets with an account that was in his name against Iowa and Kansas, two games that he played in 2021. He is said to have placed over 800 wagers that total over $20,000.
