(Iowa City) Caitlin Clark is named as one of the contenders for the 93rd James E. Sullivan Award. According to the AAU website, the award, “honors the outstanding athlete in the United States. It has been presented annually by the AAU since 1930 as a salute to founder and past president, James E. Sullivan.” This award goes with the criteria based upon an athlete who contains aspects of leadership, good character, and sportsmanship.
Clark became one of the country’s most well-known players last season, leading her team to the Hawkeye’s first NCAA Championship game and posting the most wins in program history in a season. She also became the first player in D-1 women’s basketball history to earn more than 1,000 points and over 300 assists in one season alone.
