The Griswold Tigers (26-3) travel to Wayne County to take on the Wayne Falcons (20-8) in a Regional Championship matchup at 7 pm. Neither team has matched up this season nor has any historical record of the Falcons and the Tigers been logged.
Taking a look at the last game for the Tigers, they were able to pound on the runs against Essex, beating the Trojans 10-0. Leading for the Tigers was Makenna Askeland going 3-4 with two singles and one double while adding on an RBI. Right behind her was Abby Gohlinghorst who went 2-4 with a single and a double. Karly Millikan and Addison Adams added to the stat sheet in RBIs with two each.
Karly Millikan earned the win in the game for the Tigers, allowing just one hit and no runs in the ballgame. Millikan had her second-highest performance of the season in the circle. She finished with 15 strikeouts, just three shy behind her season high of 18 vs Nodaway Valley. Millikan posts a 0.53 ERA only allowing 11 earned runs on the season. She also has 245 strikeouts just this season alone and has a WHIP of just 0.65. Leading the Tigers in the batters’ box is Makenna Askeland with a .469 batting average with 38 RBIs and just three strikeouts.
Wayne last battled it out against Lamoni, also beating them 10-0. Brystal Peck and Ella Whitney both went 2-3 for the Falcons, each posting a double and Peck added on a triple in the ballgame. Peck and Ava Whitney both had 3 RBIs in the matchup as Whitney went 1-3 as she knocked the ball over the fence for a home run.
Izzie Moore pitched a shutout ballgame, giving up no hits, no runs, and had six strikeouts in five innings of play. Moore has a 1.86 ERA on the season, allowing 40 earned runs on 108 hits. She also has 206 putouts on the season in 27 games played all season. Leading the Falcons at the plate is Allie Jo Fortune who is batting .470 on the season with 26 RBIs and has only struck out on 12 of her 83 plate appearances.
Griswold leads over the Falcons in runs scored with 9.2 versus the Falcons with 7.1 runs scored on average. The Tigers also have 58 fewer strikeouts than the Falcons and have scored 68 more runs. Griswold also has better chances in the defensive game, allowing 49 fewer earned runs on the season in 7.1 innings less of action.
