(Coon Rapids) Earlham pulls in a comeback game of the night after they were down 6-1 at the end of the first inning, winning 11-8 in seven innings of action. The Cardinals rallied back gaining 2 runs every inning from the 2nd inning until the 6th inning of the ballgame. CAM tried to offer up a few opportunities to keep it close in the game, but the pitching skill of Jeret Peterson held the Cardinals to a big win in Coon Rapids against the Cougars.
CAM started off big in the ballgame, as the Cougars rallied to score their first six batters and bat around the horn until Jack Follmann hit a ground ball into an out to end the inning. Earlham added a number on the board after the single by Ty Focht to steal two bases and put the game to a 6-1 Cougar lead.
Earlham hit the gas and continued their streak as Kaden Kasal knocked in a double and Zack Day drew a walk to be able to reach home and add two more runs on the board to make it a 6-3 ballgame. In the fourth inning of action, CAM kept the lead even further adding on two runs from a walk of Jack Follmann and a single from Chase Spieker as they were able to cross home to add some numbers on the board making it 8-5. Ty Forcht alongside Klayton Wolken was able to score off of an error and Wolken earned the RBI from his single to bring in Forcht. In the fifth inning, the same story applied to the Cardinals as they were able to capture two more runs and made it 9-8 for their first lead of the game.
The sixth inning is where the Cardinals were able to capture their win adding once again two runs onto the scoreboard and closing out the game to win over CAM by a final score of 11-8.
CAM was led by Ryan Bower who went 3-5 at the plate with 1 RBI and three singles. Following Bower was his brother Collin Bower who went 2-3 in the ballgame with two singles and added an RBI.
Earlham was led by Brody Morrison who went 2-4 on the evening with a triple and two RBIs in the ballgame. Kaden Kusal also added to the stat sheet with a double going 2-3 in the box and knocking in an RBI.
The Cardinals were led overall by Zack Day who had a day of his own, knocking his first home run over the fence which brought a major shift of momentum back towards the Cardinals as they were able to make it a tight ballgame in the third inning.
Jeret Petersen came in relief in the top of the first inning and was able to deliver only giving up two earned runs in 6.2 innings pitched giving up 7 hits and had 6 strikeouts in the game.
Earlham will take on their next opponent Woodbury Central at Woodbury Central Community School on Wednesday, July 5th at 7 pm.
