(Red Oak) The Montgomery County Auditor’s Office posted on social media, out of deepest respect, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors announced that some courthouse departments and other county department locations might be closed for the funeral of the late Montgomery County Sheriff Joe Sampson on Thursday, June 29. The Montgomery County Courthouse will fly the flag at half-mast today through Friday.
Funeral services for Joe Sampson will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Oak. The Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Joe Sampson began his law enforcement career as a peace officer in Griswold, where he later became Chief of Police for 16 years. In 1992, he joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy until he was elected Sheriff in 2008. He served three terms before retiring at the end of 2020.
