(Atlantic) Atlantic Executive Chamber Director Bailey Smith, attending Wednesday’s City Council meeting during her quarterly report, talked about membership and two significant projects.
Smith says eleven new members have signed on with the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce, nine in this quarter, bringing the total to nearly 270 members.
Smith says the Chamber is currently working with a group of people addressing the City’s childcare shortage.
Smith says this is a group of educated people that know how childcare works.
Smith talked about another major project: fundraising for the new Splashpad. The total cost is around $600,000; about one-third of this project’s money has been raised.
Bailey Smith says checks can be written to the City of Atlantic or SHIFT ATL and dropped off at the Chamber Office or City Hall. People can also donate through the website-atlanticiowasplashpad.com. and through Venmo, operated by SHIFT ATL.
Currently, Bailey Smith sits on the State Chamber Board, consisting of directors throughout Iowa. Smith represents the southwest Iowa Region. Smith says they meet several times yearly to discuss economic development and industry and create policies to help the state understand the needs of each region. Bailey Smith’s job is to help them understand the needs of southwest Iowa.
