(Des Moines) Drought conditions continue to expand across Iowa, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor. Iowa’s State Climatologist Justin Glisan says only central Iowa remains drought-free but still in the abnormally dry category.
Glisan says the 30,000-foot view reveals that 99 percent of the state is in D-3 to D-0 condition, with 51 percent in at least the D1 drought category. Glisan says this is the 155th straight week of at least a D1 drought across the state, which broke the record of 151 consecutive weeks during the 2011-2013 drought. Glisan says there may be some good news on the horizon. The seven-day forecast has the potential of strong to severe thunderstorms rolling through on Saturday.
Forecasters are calling for 90 degrees for a high today, tomorrow, and mid-to-upper 80s through Wednesday. There is a 70-percent chance of rain on Saturday.
