(Mondamin) Three people died, and three others suffered injuries when a semi and two motorcycles collided in Harrison County near Mondamin.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 4:23 p.m. on Sunday on Highway 127 and Loess Hills Trail. Authorities identified the deceased as 73-year-old Ronald K. Meeker of Woodbine, 53-year-old Steven Theodore Starkey of Council Bluffs, and passenger 53-year-old Julie Starkey.
According to the report, a westbound 1990 Kenworth semi driven by 73-year-old Ronald Keith Meeker of Woodbine failed to negotiate a curve on Highway 127 near the stop sign. The semi rolled onto its side in the southbound lane and collided with a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Steven Starkey, ejecting him and his passenger, Julie Starkey. The driver of a 2016 Harley Davidson, 52-year-old Joseph Anthony Baker of Yutan, Nebraska, jumped from his bike before being struck by the semi. A 2004 Yamaha motorcycle driven by 38-year-old Adam Opal of McClelland, and his passenger, 38-year-old Samantha Opal, were thrown from the bike.
Adam and Samantha Opal were airlifted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Mondamin Rescue transported Joseph Baker to CHI Missouri Valley Hospital.
Ronald Meeker and Steven and Julie Starkey were pronounced deceased at the scene. All three were transported to the State Medical Examiners’ Office.
