(Atlantic) Atlantic School Board President Laura McLean speaking at Wednesday’s School Board meeting, stated this fall that there will be elections for the school board with three open seats.
McLean said the residents elect board members to oversee the vision.
McLean says the school board is responsible for ensuring all their policies follow state and federal law.
McLean says the board is also responsible for ensuring the security and responsibility of the children in their care and working with the superintendent to ensure student success.
McLean says the board continually learns about leadership, district operations, educational best practices, and everything else that goes into leading a school district, which is a “big job.” She says the board owes it to the students to provide a model that learning is lifelong and values being educated as a board.
Mclean noted this was Superintendent Steve Barber’s last school board meeting, as his last day on the job is June 30th.
The district’s new Interim Superintendent, Dr. Beth Johnsen, also attended Wednesday’s meeting.
