(Avoca) AHSTW improved to 1-1 on the season with Wednesday’s 4-1 softball victory against Harlan. The Cyclones are 0-2.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th. Logan Akers led off the frame with a walk and stole second. She was driven in on a hit to left field by Graycen Partlow. AHSTW extended the lead to 4-0 in the 6th inning. Three walks and a Loralei Wahling extra base hit allowed the Lady Vikes to post a three run frame.
Partlow accounted for two hits on the night while Wahling, Bryanna Wood, and Braxton Gipple each had one. Wahling pitched six shutout innings before allowing one tally in the 7th. She allowed four hits, walked five, and struck out seven.
Harlan’s only run was driven in by Ellie Ineson. Lily Albertsen and Suzy Kenkel both walked in the 7th inning. Albertson scored on Ineson’s single, but Kenkel was thrown ut at the plate to end the game with a 4-1 final. It was the 2nd time in the contest the Cyclones ran into an out at the plate. Kendra Hansen, Halle Goodman, Rylie Knop, Bella Lamp, and Graycen Partlow were all involved in strong defensive plays that cut down Harlan scoring chances.
Jenna Gessert allowed three hits and three walks in four innings pitched. She gave up one run and struck out one. Camryn Goshorn threw the final two innings with two hits, three walks, and three runs allowed. Goshorn registered one strikeout. Ellie Ineson, Teya Frohlich, Brianna Muenchrath, and Suzy Kenkel all had one hit for Harlan.
