(Elk Horn) Kolby Culbertson struck out ten batters and Cal Heydon drove in five runs to lead Coon Rapids-Bayard to a 12-1 baseball win at Exira-EHK on Monday.
A three run triple from Heydon broke the game wide open in the 4th. He added a two run single an inning later as the Crusader offense picked up steam throughout the night. The visitors scored a run in the first when Culbertson singled and was doubled home by Lance Clayburg. Two more runs came in the 3rd as a result of a couple of walks and two Spartan errors. Culbertson reached base safely four times and scored four runs. He drew three walks.
On the mound Culbertson allowed only one hit over four strong innings. His lone hiccup came in the 4th inning when Gavin Bengard led off with a walk, moved to 2nd on a wild pitch, went to 3rd on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch. The first seven outs Culbertson recorded were via the ‘K’. He allowed three walks on the evening. Cade Behrens pitched as scoreless 5th inning, allowing one hit and no walks.
Trey Petersen and Jameson Kilworth each had one single for Exira-EHK’s lone hits. Jameson Kilworth took the loss on the mound. He gave up three hits, five walks, and seven runs over three plus innings. Derrek Kommes came on in relief for one inning with four walks, one hit, and five runs allowed.
