Susan was born on December 30, 1960 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK, and died at the age of 61, September 23, 2022 at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, TX, putting an end to the pain of Pancreatic Cancer.
Susan attended Star Spencer High School, located in a suburb of Oklahoma City; where she played the violin in the school orchestra and during her senior year took classes at the local community college. Susan graduated in the Class of 1978. Immediately after graduation she was employed by Hartford Insurance in Oklahoma City until 1980 when she was transferred to the home office in Hartford, CT. She was later transferred to San Antonio, TX in 1995, and in 1996, accepted an IT position at Brooks Randolph Federal Credit Union. While in Texas Susan met her future husband, Kyle Nice, and the couple married on September 15, 2001. Susan retired in 2021, when her 5th and final cancer diagnosis took over her life.
Susan loved to read and had not only a large collection of “real books” but an amazing collection of digital and audio books, and had library privileges at several locations she took advantage of. She collected countless teddy bears through the years and at the time of her death requested they be donated to the local children’s hospital. Susan and Kyle loved to go camping and on motorcycle trips. She even took motorcycle classes and bought her own cycle, only to discover she would rather be a passenger instead of a driver.
Susan’s vibrant smile and her ability to make others’ days with her kind words will be deeply missed. She leaves behind, to join her later, her loving husband, Kyle Nice of San Antonio, TX; mother, Janice Brown of Atlantic, IA; brother, Charles Brown, Clive, IA; stepson, Christopher Nice of Waco, TX; stepdaughter, Kristen Nice of Austen, TX; and cousins in Iowa, Oklahoma and North Carolina.
Preceding her in death were her biological father, Robert Earl Fowler; dad who raised her, Larry Brown; maternal grandparents, Carl and Hyacinth Meece; paternal grandparents, Cliff and Isabel Brown; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 10th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Following a brunch and time of fellowship, Susan will be laid to rest at the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield, Iowa, where her dad and grandparents rest. The service will be recorded and available on the funeral home website by noon on Thursday, May 11th.
Roland Funeral Service is caring for Susan’s family and her arrangements.
