(Audubon) Damage to rural roads in Audubon County prompted a discussion between the Board of Supervisors and County Engineer.
Supervisors Chairman Doug Sorensen expressed his frustration. “We discussed a few things with some roads that were torn up in the county in the last rain. I guess it’s just a little bit frustrating because some of these rains were very well forecasted. If we could keep the truck traffic off the roads when they are muddy it would sure help. I don’t think people realize how much damage you can do with a few passes with a loaded semi on a muddy road. You can do tens of thousands of dollars in damage in just a few passes. It takes a lot of county resources to get these things fixed up.”
Sorensen advises operators of heavy equipment to plan ahead when they can. “As much as possible. I know sometimes you just have to get there with feed or to get hogs out or something. But as much as humanly possible to stay off of them when it’s muddy, because it really tears them up and does a lot of damage.”
