(Avoca) A man has been charged in Shelby County with Homicide by Vehicle – Operating Under the Influence.
According to court records, an arrest warrant was served on 50-year-old Robert Arkfeld Jr. on Friday. Arkfeld has since posted bond.
The charges stem from an accident at 325 Highway 59 on September 22, 2022. 33-year-old Timothy McFarland, of Emerson, died in the crash. The Iowa State Patrol says a 2001 Harley Davidson, driven by McFarland, was traveling northbound on Highway 59 when a 2005 International tractor driven by Arkfeld attempted to pull out from a farm drive trying to turn south on Highway 59. The Tractor turned into the path of the motorcycle. McFarland couldn’t stop in time and collided with the front of the Tractor. Timothy McFarland was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court records also indicate that Arkfeld was charged last week with Introducing Intoxicants or Drugs into Institution, Keeping Premises or Vehicle for Controlled Substance, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, and Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense.
